The skin is our largest organ and how we look after it is vital in the fight against dryness, irritating skin complaints and environmental damage.
By paying a bit more attention to what you’re feeding it with - from what you include in your diet to what you put on your skin - we can all have happier, healthier, more balanced skin.
Knowing we should be aiming for 8-10 glasses of water a day is one thing - doing it is quite another. We’ve found that flavouring a jug of filtered tap water with any of the following really helps us achieve the magic two litres: a sprig of mint, a couple of slices of cucumber, a wedge of lemon or lime or a cut-up strawberry or raspberry or two. Any of these will give a delicious edge to what otherwise can feel pretty uninspiring.
On the outside, make sure your bodycare routine includes some of our favourite oils. They’re all brilliant at hydrating and adding moisture and deliver a range of powerful skincare benefits.
Argan [Argania spinosa] oil
High in vitamin E and fatty acids, argan oil is absorbed easily and is non-greasy. Great for sensitive skin, it’s also rich in squalene, ferulic acid, carotenoids, anti-inflammatory linoleic acid and nourishing oleic acid. Known by many as ‘liquid gold’, it’s been loved for centuries for its nutrient-rich purity. It’s non-comedogenic meaning it won’t block pores so is even suitable for congested, oily skin.

Cacao [Theobroma cocoa] seed butter
Intensively moisturising and beautifully scented, cacao seed butter is the fat obtained from the seeds of the cacao tree by pressing and filtering. High in vitamin E and the fatty acids we all need for healthy, supple skin, it’s quick to be absorbed. Its high antioxidant level helps fight off free-radical damage. There is anecdotal evidence that cacao butter is helpful in helping scars to heal and many pregnant women love to moisturise with it to minimise stretch marks. Oleic, palmitic and stearic acids are excellent skin nourishers.

Shea [Vitellaria paradoxa] butter
Shea butter gently moisturises whilst delivering oleic acid, a saturated fatty acid which is readily absorbed by the skin. A rich source of antioxidants, it’s fantastic for smoothing and nurturing dry skin.

Lightweight and high in essential fatty acids, macadamia nut oil has anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties for youthful, glowing skin. With antioxidant properties and rich in phytosterols, which aid absorption, macadamia oil is brilliant at delivering hydration to the deeper layers of the skin. Palmitoleic acid, naturally found in the skin but which depletes as we age, helps minimise blemishes and signs of lines.

Babussu [Attalea speciosa] oil
Rich in lauric and myristic acids that help promote healthy cells, babussu oil is a brilliant moisturiser which melts on contact with the skin. The essential acids also help to restore your skin’s strength and reduce water loss for better skin hydration. A natural anti-inflammatory, babussu oil can be helpful in treating eczema.

Sweet almond [Prunus amygdalus dulcis] oil
